Language Classes

An ICU language class session Click here for our Winter Weather Policy

The ICU provides an opportunity for people to experience a rich diversity of cultures and ideas by learning another language in an informal, supportive setting. Both the language classes and the English conversation clubs play a major role in advancing the ICU's goal of "sharing a world of cultures."

All classes are held in eight-week sessions and are taught by native speakers. Language students must be ICU members and pay a fee of $30 per term (use our online payment option). Fees help cover ICU expenses and support the further development of language classes. Meetings are held at the ICU, 1st floor of City Hall, 206 South Main Street, Greenville.

If you are interested in teaching your own native language, please contact us or visit our Volunteer site for further information.

SCHEDULE FOR SUMMER 2008
Please contact the ICU at info@internationalupstate.org if you would like to be added to our email list, so you will receive first notification of new classes.

To register for a class, contact the ICU at info@internationalupstate.org or see below for payment and registration information.

ENGLISH AND SPANISH CONVERSATION CLUBS (ESL)
The ICU English and Spanish Conversation Clubs offer an opportunity for speakers from different cultures to meet together, practice their spoken English and Spanish, and gain confidence in discussing relevant and current issues. These clubs emphasize conversation rather than instruction, and they are led by native speakers.

English and Spanish Conversation Clubs are open to all current members of the ICU. While ICU membership is required, additional donations are welcomed but not required for the conversation clubs.

WINTER WEATHER POLICY
In the event of dangerous winter weather, the ICU follows the practice of the Greenville County School District in determining whether to close. Thus, if schools are closed, the ICU is closed and classes are cancelled. If a weather situation develops during the day, the ICU will attempt to notify students of schedule changes. If in doubt, check the ICU website or call 864-467-4579: we will record a message on the answering machine and post a notice on the ICU website if the ICU is closed due to bad weather.
